Houses for the Holidays with Lazy Day

“From now until 12/31, you can build a gingerbread house for only $5.95 at one of our restaurants. The best part: 100% of the net proceeds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity to help build homes in our communities.”

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure to join Lazy Dog as they released their national partnership with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) as they kick off the holidays with a sweet contribution, Houses for the Holidays. The restaurant, known for its incredible food and fur-friendly seats, have announced that they will contribute all of the net-proceeds from their Gingerbread houses toward Habitat for Humanity.

The brunch started off with a wonderful speech from the founder himself, who stated his mission behind the business – he wanted to create a home away from home, pup’s welcome! Along with his mission to create a home by bringing you his favorite foods, he also wanted to create a home for those who less fortunate, by providing support to Habitat for Humanity. He was presented an Award by the Mayor of Brea, Christine Marick, for his long-lasting contribution to the organization and his passion behind the restaurant.. Little known fact that although this year marks the first year Lazy Dog will be doing the national fundraiser, the founder has been donating to the cause for years. Now that deserves some paws up!

We were also surprised by the presence by the one of the family who has actually benefited from the homes created with organization. With the help from the HFH team, they explained the process that makes up one of these homes. From selection, to fundraising to drilling those first nails, the family and volunteers are a part of the process, every step of the way. The chosen family also has the opportunity to meet up with financial reps’ who can assist with budgeting and create a payment plan once the house is complete and they receive their first mortgage bill. The goal is “A hand up, not a hand out.”

Throughout the touching speeches, the staff made their way around the room serving the best bites, including Glazed Pretzels, their sizzling BBQ Chicken, and lots & lots of cheese! There were other things that made up the complimentary meal (like eggs) but let’s be honest, their bar food really hits the spot. (&pair it up with their drinks, perfect sports bar date!) But the best part? The Gingerbread Houses (#HousesForTheHolidays) 💗 for the campaign. Go anytime during the holiday season and be a part of the fundraising contribution by simply buying a home for your family, & theirs, to enjoy! ~ Happy Holidays. ⛄
